Sheldon High School is currently not open to the public. We have staff in the building Monday – Friday, 7:30 am – 4:00 pm, checking both email and phone lines to help answer any questions. You can reach our main office at 541-790-6600.

2021 GRADUATION INFORMATION:

Every 4J high school will hold a virtual graduation ceremony on Thursday, June 10. An “optional,” in-person ceremony will be on Friday, June 11 (for all IHS seniors) and Wednesday, June 16 (for all Sheldon seniors). See specifics attached here.

SHELDON FOOD DISTRIBUTION DAYS:

Sheldon High school is hosting Food Distribution Days on Tuesday 5/18 and Tuesday 6/8. Both from 2-6pm. If you are in need of a food box or two, we are here for you! Simply drive up to the front of school and we can help you out.

SENIOR GRAD PARTY INFO:

The planning committee for year-end celebrations is asking for some input on events.  We have plans in the works, however, the current Covid restrictions are not allowing us to make firm plans for some items.  We are hoping your input will help with our focus.  Please submit the google form below to assist us with our planning. Grad Party Form

CLASS OF 2021 CHECKLIST:

Mark your calendar for Senior Distribution Day THIS Thursday, May 20 from 11:30 am – 3:30 pm. Items that will be available are awards, senior yard signs, cap and gown, and any announcements or senior items not picked up, yet. There is an opportunity to have a photo taken and to sign the senior shield. The up-to-date Class of 2021 Checklist is attached here.

FOOD FOR LANE COUNTY FOOD DRIVE:

Sheldon has partnered with Food For Lane County to conduct a food drive Monday  May 17 through Friday, May 21 to support those in need throughout our region. There will be a collection barrel in front of the school as well as barrels strategically placed throughout the building for students, family, and staff to drop off non-perishable food items. Please consider donating if you are in a position to do so. Every item counts!

NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP:

CONGRATULATIONS to Andrew Chvatal & Owen Mau for their recognition of being Commended Students from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.  Out of 1.5 million students who entered the National Merit Scholarship competition by taking the 2019 PSAT/NMSQT, commended students placed among the top 50,000 scorers in the nation.  Andrew and Owen have demonstrated outstanding academic success and their Sheldon Family is extremely proud of their accomplishments.

WORK STUDY STUDENTS:

Current sophomores and juniors interested in Work Study positions for next fall, please send a current resume with references, your availability for two periods, a list of forecasted classes and 2 Sheldon staff member letters of recommendation to Shiloh Jackson in the Career Center at jackson_s@4j.lane.edu. Work Study consists of paid positions at Sheldon and other Sheldon region schools. Students do not forecast for Work Study, rather there is an interview and hiring process. All interested students are encouraged to apply.

4J VACCINE CLINICS:

When: Monday, May 17, 1–6 p.m. & Monday, May 24, 1–5 p.m.

• May 17: Make an appointment (slots may open due to cancelations)

SUMMER INTENSIVE PROGRAMS:

Let’s continue the learning! Eugene School District 4J’s summer intensive program for students entering grades 9–12 provides an opportunity to extend their learning into the summer months and earn high school credit at the same time. 4J teachers have designed the courses to engage students in innovative learning. Course offerings cover a wide range of topics including woodworking, stop motion animation, financial literacy, infectious disease, cooking, engineering design, Native American art and culture, watercolor painting, and more.

Register today! The first course begins July 2, 2021. Most courses will be held in-person.

NAACP & LANE ESD:

NAACP & Lane ESD are hosting their final Parent Night of the school year. This is a great space for families to connect and receive information on community resources specific to your needs. Please note the attached flyer and the registration link provided here.

MEAL BOX AVAILABILITY:

Eugene School District 4J will offer free grab-and-go meal boxes for 4J students and other youth up to age 18 every Wednesday. No application or pre-registration is required. Home delivery will no longer be provided. There are no income requirements and families can pick up meals at any location. Vegetarian, made-without-gluten, and soy milk options are available.

Safe Oregon: www.safeoregon.com – a program created for Oregon students, parents, school staff, community members and law enforcement officers to report and respond to student safety threats. (Safe Oregon app available in the App store)

Lines for Life: www.linesforlife.org – a regional non-profit dedicated to preventing substance abuse and suicide. Offers help and hope to individuals and communities, and promotes mental health for all. Addresses a spectrum of needs that include intervention, prevention, and advocacy. Educates, trains, and advocates to prevent issues of substance abuse, mental illness, and thoughts of suicide from reaching crisis levels. Available 24/7/365 to intervene with personalized help when a crisis arises or support is needed.

HOW DO YOU FEEL:

To help everyone at school stay healthy, students and staff need to be healthy when they come to school. If your student is feeling unwell, or if they or anyone in their home has primary symptoms of COVID-19 or other communicable diseases, they need to stay at home.

Symptoms that should keep a student home:

  • Fever of 100 or higher
  • Chills, cough, shortness of breath
  • Difficulty breathing
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Diarrhea or vomiting
