BUILDING

As a reminder, Sheldon High School is not open to the public. Staff is in the building between the hours of 7:30 am – 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday, and staff are checking both email and phone lines to respond to questions. You can reach our main office at 541-790-6600. You can find the new Distribution page on the Sheldon website, right next to the Event Calendar!

SENIORS

Seniors that ordered a sweatshirt, tassel, lanyard, key chain, etc., should call Miners Grad and make an appointment to pick up your items today!

WINTER WEATHER

It’s on its way! Here is some key information families need to know.

When hazardous weather is a concern, decisions regarding schedule changes are made in the early morning, before school, when current weather conditions can be assessed. Decisions are made district wide and are the same for every 4J school.

Our main concern is the safety of our students and staff. We also believe students and families are best served when schools are open. We will always do our best to make the best decision possible, taking into account all of the factors.

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

OSAC (Oregon Student Assistance Commission): 600+ Scholarships with ONE application

February 22, 2021: (UPDATED) Priority deadline for Early Bird 

• If error-free, enter a drawing for a $1000 scholarship; many available, by 5:00 PM (PST)

March 1, 2021: FINAL deadline

• OSAC Scholarship Applications & all required documents must be submitted to OSAC by 5:00 PM (PST)

How to “deliver” your transcript from Sheldon: CHECK the box that says you are requesting your transcript from your high school.  No need to download request form!  We will upload the transcripts on your behalf.

Oregon Promise: TWO (almost) free years of community college

Must have:

• 5 GPA minimum
• Complete the FAFSA and choose a community college within
• Complete the application prior to June 1^st
• APPLY at a community college in Oregon (choose from 17 different institutions that have transfer degrees and many technical, beauty and certification programs)
• Start community college in the 2021 Fall Term (do look at Oregon Promise calculator if you graduate early)

The Eugene Education Association will offer three $1000 scholarships to high school seniors who are interested in teaching as a career. In an effort to recruit a more diverse teaching force, EEA is continuing to offer a scholarship for students of color who want to become educators. This scholarship is also for $1000. BIPOC (Black, Indigenous & People of Color) students can apply for the Future Teacher scholarship and the Future BIPOC Teacher Scholarship here, though no student will be awarded more than one scholarship.

2020-21 School Year Photos:

9^th – 11^th grade students, yearbook wants your portrait! The Yearbook staff wants to include every student in the yearbook, but without traditional student images, we need your help!

Please see the flyer attached for step-by-step instructions to get your student’s school picture included in the yearbook this year!

SCHEDULING

The SCHEDULE CORRECTION form is now open for Tri-3 schedule changes. Students and parents please double check your schedules for Tri-3 and double check that you are enrolled in the correct classes. The Course Correction Form will be closing on March 1, after that, no course corrections will be allowed unless initiated by a counselor or administrator. Find the Tri-3 correction form under the “STUDENT” tab on the Sheldon website, then “Scheduling & Forecasting” then “Tri-3 Schedule Correction Form.”

ATHLETICS

All athletes must register.  Season 2 football, soccer, volleyball, cross country deadline is Monday, February 22. Please visit sheldonirishathletics.com for more information!

STUDENT FORECASTING

During the Wednesday, February 10 and 17 advisories, students in grades 9-11 have been preparing to forecast. This Wednesday, February 24, students will complete that process in advisory. The forecasting forms will be open on Wednesday, February 24 and remain open until Monday, March 1.

Here is the link to the 2021-2022 Curriculum Guide that contains grade level presentations that students first saw in this week’s advisory, as well as the Forecasting forms for grades 10-12. Please pay close attention to page 3 in the guide, because it offers an interactive table of contents and all of the scheduling form links at the bottom of page 3.

For your convenience, here are the forecasting presentations for you to review, but the curriculum guide will offer more information that you will need regarding classes, forecasting, and planning for graduation.

COLLEGE & CAREER CENTER

The Sheldon COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER is a resource center for students and parents focused on post High School planning. Resources available include information on 2- and 4- year colleges, tech programs, trade schools, scholarships, financial aid, testing, military, NCAA and international/local summer opportunities. It is an excellent opportunity for parents to learn about colleges, scholarship information and resources.

2021–22 SCHOOL CHOICE Information

In Eugene School District 4J, families may choose their school, provided space is available. Students may enroll in their neighborhood school or request to transfer to a different school. Options include alternative, language immersion and other neighborhood schools.

COVID-19 TESTING

FREE COVID-19 TESTING for 4J families, staff and community members will be offered at the 4J Education Center, 200 N. Monroe St, every other week through August. Testing is provided by the University of Oregon, and is a self-collected shallow nasal swab. Results will be available within 2–4 days.

Testing is free and available to everyone regardless of insurance or immigration status. It is offered on a first-come, first-served basis; no appointments will be available. Preregistration is recommended, but not required: blogs.uoregon.edu/osjp/registro.

When: Saturday, February 13 & 27 and continuing every two weeks
Time: 9 a.m.–12 p.m.
